Peace be unto thy soul

This morning before leaving for work, I found this quote from Howard W. Hunter:

"When resistance and opposition are greatest, our faith, commitment, and growth have the greatest opportunity for advancement; when opposition is least, the tendency is to be complacent and lose faith."

This really made me stop and think - because I've felt just the opposite lately - like my adversity was causing me to lose faith. But then I remember that "all these things shall give thee experience, and be for thy good" - and also "thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment."

Classic Car Show

Earlier this month, a car show was held in downtown St. George, and I was lucky enough to be off work in time to stop by. I always enjoy checking out these classic cars. I am really impressed with cars that are older than I am, and in better condition too!

I head for the Oldsmobiles first, because my first car was a 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Fastback - which I still think was the most beautiful car ever made. Today I saw this 1950 Olds - too bad it wasn't green!

I was disappointed to see only 1 Mustang - this 1966 hard top. It is still my dream to own a Mustang Convertible.
The 1957 Chevy is an all-time classic, and every car show has at least one on display. But how many have an engine looking this good?

St. George RoadRunners

I was expecting a busy day at work, but it was so slow, I was able to leave at 6:00. Off by 6:00 on a Friday night? What would I do with myself!?! Go to a baseball game, of course! The St. George RoadRunners http://www.stgeorgeroadrunners.com/ are our team in the Golden Baseball League http://www.goldenbaseball.com/, which began play in May 2005. The RoadRunners joined the league in 2007, bringing minor league baseball back to St. George after a 5 year absence. They play at Bruce Hurst Field, on the Dixie State College campus. They are managed by former major league all-star Cory Snyder. Tonight they played the Edmonton Capitals. The game was good, and we won 9-5! They are now 4-2 for the season.

The Climb

For as long as I can remember, music has always inspired me. Today, I am inspired by these words by Miley Cyrus:

I can almost see it
That dream I'm dreaming but
There's a voice inside my head sayin,
You'll never reach it,
Every step I'm taking,
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking but
I got to keep trying
Got to keep my head held high

There's always going to be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose,
Ain't about how fast I get there,
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

The struggles I'm facing,
The chances I'm taking
Sometimes might knock me down but
No I'm not breaking
I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I'm going to remember most yeah
Just got to keep going
And I, I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on, cause

There's always going to be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle,
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose,
Ain't about how fast I get there,
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words

I've spent entirely too much time online lately, but not all of it has been unproductive. I've found some awesome quotes which have helped me to put things in perspective:

"People say love hurts, but it's not true. Loneliness hurts. Rejection hurts. Losing someone hurts. Don't confuse these things with love, because in reality, Love is the only thing in this world that covers up all the pain and makes us feel good again."

"Sometimes we need to stop analyzing the past~stop planning the future~stop trying to figure out precisely how we feel~stop deciding with our mind what we want our heart to feel~sometimes we just have to go with...whatever happens~happens."

Blessings far more valuable than material possesions

Another item high on my list of things I am thankful for, is the scriptures. My favorite passage at the moment is the following from Matthew, chapter 11:

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

On My Own

They say everything happens for a reason. Maybe that is a cliche I could use to explain why I'm single again. They also say that all good things must come to an end. Perhaps that is why I find myself alone each night when I come home from work. I have so many questions, so many doubts, so many fears. I am thankful for all of the kind words from my friends - who have taught me I can't change the past, nor worry about the future. All I can do is live for today, and make the most of it!
